DRIVER UPDATE : Formula BMW : Oscar Tunjo The Young Colombian Racing driver Oscar AndrÈs Tunjo debuted at the age of 15 years old in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Championship being protagonist and finishing in fifth position of the first Race in the World Series event in Motorland, Spain.
The Colombian started 10th place, a very good start that put him in sixth place, then after a safety car period he past into fifth place on the restart and defended his position with very consistent times to finish in the Top 5 for his 1st race in a Championship thought to be one of the highest level in Europe in 2011.
In the second race Tunjo qualified ninth. He made a very good start to pass Spanish driver Tarrancon for eighth position. On the last hairpin turn of the first lap, three cars collided in front of the Colombian, leaving him to seek the inside of the curve. But Tunjo could not avoid contact, forcing him into retirement.
"I am very happy with my first race in Formula Renault 2.0 Championship, with a fifth place for the second race and the numerical result was not the best, however we will work to recover what was lost." During the 2 days of Formula Renault Testing at the Navarra Circuit in Spain, Tunjo put himself in the limelight during the 1st day of testing on a new circuit for him and finished 5th overall. Day 2 he placed 9th in the morning on old tyres and finished the day in 4th place overall after changing to new tyres.
