Yu takes Round 2 win in GT Asia Series

Frank Yu of Craft Eurasia Racing took his first win of the season in Round 2 of the GT Asia Series. Yu completed 16 laps in 41:51.280, 6.6seconds ahead of Dilantha Malagamuwa of Dilango Racing while Tunku Hammam Sulong completed the podium.


Simon Waters claimed the GT4 Class win ahead of teammate and mentor, Mark Williamson. The duo from Concord Absolute Racing fended of the S&D driver pairing of Frank Yee and the 2010 GT4 Asia Cup Champion, Daniel Bilski, who claimed third.


In the GTM Class, Eric Lo claimed the top spot on the podium ahead of Keith Chan and Byron Tong.


While in the Lotus Supercup Asia category, Malaysian Tan Wei Ron took the win ahead of Rocky Siow and American driver, Bruce Lee.


The Safety Car was called out for three laps when Samson Chan carried too much speed while trying to overtake Tan Ian Mao on the final turn of lap four. Chan hit Tan and the duo collected the Lotus of Sean Cheng ending their race.


At that time, Hammam who had claimed the lead at the start of the race was overtaken by Yu and then on lap 12 was overtaken by Malagamuwa for second.


The protest filed by Hammam after the race citing Yu had overtaken him under yellow flag was dismissed. The result currently remains, pending an appeal by Hammam and his team Arrows Racing.
