Malaysian racing driver Weiron Tan will debut his first full single-seater season on home turf as he heads to Sepang International Circuit for the opening rounds of the 2012 JK Racing Asia Series.

Driving for the multi-championship winning Eurointernational team, the 17-year-old will race on the esteemed Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit near Kuala Lumpur for the first four races of the season over the 26-27 May weekend, following a three day test session for all Series drivers.

The JK Racing Asia Series comprises 16 races and will run at some of Formula One’s leading circuits, including Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, Marina Bay Circuit in Singapore and the Buddh International Circuit in India.

The Series uses the 140bhp FB02 which has an unrivalled track record for training future Champions and developing them for a success with graduates at the highest level of the sport such as Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Timo Glock, Daniel Ricciardo, Sebastien Buemi in Formula 1, Felipe Nasr and Rio Haryanto in GP2, Jazeman Jaafar, Sebastian Saveedra and Carlos Sainz Jr in British F3, and many more.

In addition to his racing activities in the JK Racing Asia Series, Weiron Tan is a member of the 2012 AirAsia Caterham Formula 1 Team Driver Development Program.

“It’s going to be a really special weekend for me when we race in Sepang because it’s the excitement of the first race after months of preparation, combined with it being at home where I will have support from my friends and family. It’s a great feeling to know that I’ll be racing on such an amazing track as Sepang and drive where many great F1 drivers have raced” said Weiron.

“We’ve done some pre-season testing and have had some positive outcomes and still have some testing to go but we’re only really going to know where we are when we get to the first race.

“It’s an important season for me to gain as much experience as possible and I’m aiming to get race wins. It would be great if I could get a win at my home track.”
