Located more than one hour from Beijing, Ho-Pin also had to endure falling ill from gripes, but despite that, he managed to finish 4th in Saturday’s race and 5th in the second race on Sunday, pushing him up the points table to fourth. “I made the maximum out of the circumstances” said Ho-Pin at the end of his weekend in Ordos. “Not only was my physical condition was much less than it should be, in the second race I had to deal with fast degradation of the tyres from the fifth lap onwards” said the Budweiser Star Chase driver. Qualifying went well, the top of the field were close and Ho-Pin started 7th on the grid. He had a good start in the first race and managed to gain several positions after heavy battles. The young Chinese finished 5th, later this became 4th because of a time penalty for Pekka Saarinen. It was a race occasion at inner Mongolia at this time of the year when rain began to pour right before that start of the race on Sunday. Ho-Pin had never before driven the Porrsche in the wet, but already during the installation lap he felt comfortable. He made a splendid start, went from 5th to 2nd position in the first lap and even battled for the lead. “I felt I could win this race but after five laps though tyres dropped off”. The fast degradation of the tyres made it very difficult for many of the top ten drivers. “I did everything I could to limit the loss of positions and fought hard. Fifth at the finish line was the maximum I could do. I am glad with this result, under the circumstances that is” he ended. Of all drivers suffering from tyre degradation Ho-Pin Tung was fastest, lap charts showed. Next race: 25, 26 August, Sepang, Malaysia
