Mok Weng Sun broke the lap record for GT Asia Series at Fuji Speedway circuit to clinch both Pole positions for Rounds 5 & 6 held later today and tomorrow. The Team Clearwater Racing took the Ferrari F458 GT3 to an absolute scorching time of 1:42.824 during the Qualifying 1 session.
Mok is absolutely happy with the results and was all smiles after the two 15 minute sessions. “Its feels good, my first two poles of the season. The car has been good and I am enjoying not having any ballast on the car.

“The car has no power on the straights but I’m making up for it on the corners, underbracing around the corners.

When asked how the circuit and the tyres have been for him, Mok replied, “Its been going good so far, but the circuit is a little bit green with the rain. The grip level is not so high but then every one is going through the same thing. The tyres are consistent and I am proud of what Yokohama has done with the tyres” he ended.

Driving on his home circuit, Hisao Shigeta will start from second for both races. He was happy with his times but kept on saying “he is so fast!!” when referring to pole sitter, Mok. But the Direction Racing driver is confident of the weekend saying “I will go for the win”.

Frank Yu in the Craft Eurasia Racing Hong Kong’s Ford GT3 will start Round 5 in third while Marchy Lee and Jeffrey Lee duo in the Audi R8 LMS Ultra will start third for Round 6. Yu was happy with the result “the cars arrived late in Fuji and we have no parts” laughed the Hong Kong driver. He set the fastest sector 1 time of the day in Qualifying 1, before Shigeta matched it perfectly in Qualifying 2.

Marchy commented that the Audi was a little sluggish on the straights but the car made time around the corners. “Some cars are suited for different tracks”. The driver is confident of a good outing and is looking forward to some good results this weekend.

Hideki Onda was all smiles after setting the fastest time for both Qualifying sessions in the GTM class. “Its going to be an exciting race with us changing positions again and again” laughed Onda as it has always been intense racing in the class.

It will be a close racing of a trio of Ferrari F430 GT’s with the inclusion of two Modena Motorsports’ cars with Wayne Shen and Francis Tjia who are starting just behind of Onda for both races.

The GT Asia Series Round 5 will be held later today at 3.30pm (local time) and Round 6 will be held Sunday, 15 July 2012 at 12.10pm.
