DRIVER UPDATE : F.BMW / Formula V6 Asia : Earl Bamber

Waganui native, Earl Bamber was kept busy last weekend when he was called in to participate in the 2012 World Time Attack Challenge at Eastern Creek. The event has its roots in Japan as a competition between tuning shops of sorts where the main (and maybe only) goal is to get around the track as fast as possible. It is known to enthusiasts as a test of man and machine against time.
Bamber was excited before leaving showing off pictures of a car, that looks fit to be an airplane, being built for his drive. By the end of the weekend, the New Zealander took the 600hp Nissan Sylvia through some blistering laps, knocking off one of the favourites to claim a podium finish and getting the bragging rights as ‘The Fastest Rear Wheel Drive in the World!’

He did that right in the dying minutes of the final Pro Class session. Bamber brought the MCA Suspension car, pushing it past ‘Under’ Suzuki to claim 3rd with an amazing lap time of 1:27.8080.

Scorch Racing’s S15 has been in the third place since the morning session, but Bamber was determined to have one final push to get onto the podium. And push he did. The MCA ‘Hammerhead’ flew around the track bettering Suzuki’s 1:28.329, enough to secure MCA’s position on the podium.

At the end of the day, Bamber had a great experience and is sure to jump at the chance again in future.

Bamber said of the experience “It was an incredible week of driving with so much going on. I can’t thank the MCA suspension team enough in getting the car running and never giving up no matter what situation faced us. Also to Hankook tyres without whose help and support we wouldn’t have achieved what we achieved today - they are the best tyres on track. It was amazing what we achieved and I’m just so happy for the whole team”.
