Tunku Hammam clocked 1:56.758 to
claim the pole position for the penultimate race of the GT3 Asia 2009 Season.
The session was held on a windy day at the Autopolis
International Circuit as part of the Super GT event this weekend.
The Malaysian was the fastest driver
during the Free Practice session yesterday and proved that he was consistent
throughout the session in his Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S. “I did my best and on the
last or second last lap, I gave it everything. I’m here to win the race, and
that’s what I hope to do.
Lining up on the front row next to
him is Singaporean driver Melvin Choo in the Mosler
G50 GT3. Choo who is participating in the series for the first time is using
his past experience at the circuit to his advantage.
Frank Yu of Team Road & Track and
Wayne Shen of Modena Motorsport will take up row two.
Despite a spin in the early part of
the session, Championship leader W.Shen managed to
clock the fourth fastest time and is positive of a podium finish in the race
later today.
“The first set of tyres didn’t feel
so good, we were behind some slower cars for two to three laps and I tried to
go for a fast lap but I spun. So I came back in, changed the tyres which made
it a bit better.
“I think I have reasonable chance to
get a podium, so that’s why I am going to push the hardest I can” said W.Shen after the session.
Eric Cheung and local driver, Gen Emoto will line up on the third row ahead of the two
Lamborghinis of Siu Yuk Lung in seventh and Eddie Yau in eighth.
Round 11 of the GT3 Asia will be held
on Saturday, 17 October at 4.05pm and the last race of the season will be held
on Sunday, 18 October at 12.15pm.
